About Wendy

My hands find joy in so many things, from the soil to the threadwork of textile wall art. I’m Wendy, a British woman who now calls a charming Bulgarian village home. Here, nestled in the picturesque countryside, my husband and I have woven a life of semi self-sufficiency, a tapestry of growing and creating.

Our garden is a vibrant hub, a living canvas that changes with the seasons. We nurture tender seedlings, coaxing them into life, and then harvest the rich bounty of vegetables, fruits, and grapes we’ve cultivated. It’s a rhythmic cycle, a dance with nature that fills our days.

Furthermore, 0ur little homestead is alive with activity. We share our space with a lively flock of chickens, a stately pair of geese, whose raucous honking provides a constant backdrop to our days and a curious turkey also add its unique thread to the fabric of our life here.

When I’m not tending the garden or caring for our feathered companions, I turn to another form of creation: Fibre art or textile wall art. My trusty Janome sewing machine becomes my loom, and I craft intricate, vibrant art quilts. Each stitch is like a carefully placed thread in a larger design, a testament to my love of color and texture.

Moreover, I have recently encountered the deeply moving art of Memory Bear and Keepsake making, and I am amazed by its power to provide comfort and solace during times of loss.

My hands also find pleasure in the tactile world of paper. I meticulously assemble scrapbook journals, carefully layering and arranging elements to create a tangible record of adventures and precious memories – each page a small, crafted story.

Our life in Bulgaria is a rich and textured blend of peaceful simplicity and rewarding engagement. We cherish the deep connection to the natural world, the satisfaction of nurturing our own food, and the profound joy of creative expression. It’s a life deeply fulfilling, a beautiful piecework of experiences.

Artistic Journey Through Textile Wall Art.

Primarily, my artistic focus lies in commissioned, custom art quilts. I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life. However, I also recognise the need for a creative outlet to pursue my own artistic inclinations. Therefore, I occasionally deviate from commissioned work and create pieces that are entirely driven by my own inspiration—pure whimsy.

The commissions themselves are incredibly diverse, which is fascinating because they reflect such personal narratives. I have undertaken a wide range of projects, from translating someone’s passion for a specific sport into a vibrant, dynamic quilt to crafting intricate quilt art honouring military units or commemorating people’s favourite pop or sports stars. Furthermore, I have captured family bonds by depicting beloved pets, spouses, and children in quilt form. It is truly remarkable how personal these pieces can become.

In addition to these commissioned projects, I have found immense satisfaction in reinterpreting iconic masterpieces through the medium of fabric. This approach allows me to create a unique and personal interpretation of famous paintings. I have also successfully transformed cherished memories—favourite scenes, pastimes, and special moments—into tangible quilts. To be honest, the subject matter is virtually limitless. It is essentially a matter of what my clients can envision.
