Keeping My Promise to Share Memory Bears
I promised to share the Handcrafted Sentimental Keepsake Bears I make, and I’m so excited to finally keep that promise! Today, I’m thrilled to show you the first three bears that I’ve created, each one a heartfelt keepsake designed to preserve precious memories. Creating these bears has been a wonderful journey, and I can’t wait to share their stories with you.
The First Bear: A Personal Experiment
The first bear I made was an experiment to see if I could combine my art quilting skills with the craft of making sentimental keepsakes. This bear was a test piece and a labour of love, and it truly opened my eyes to the beauty of turning fabric into something so meaningful in another form other than art quilts. Guided by a trusted pattern embraced by fellow crafters, it served as the perfect foundation to translate my vision into a tangible, heartfelt keepsake.
Creating Keepsakes for a Customer
Once I felt confident in my ability to transfer my skills into this new form of art, I went on to create two more bears. These were made for a customer who had recently lost her mother and wanted to create keepsakes for her grandchildren, using fabric from her mother’s clothing. It was a truly special project, and I felt privileged to help honour the memory of their great grandmother. This is the first of the two bears and you can see the other bear below, both made with care and love:
Adding Personal Touches with Embroidery
For these two bears, I embroidered messages onto the foot pads to add a personal touch. However, to protect privacy, I’ve edited out the messages for this post. Each bear carries its own personal story, and it was such an honour to help create a piece of comfort for the grandchildren who will cherish these keepsakes forever.
